Curses are one of the main mechanics of Curse of the Dead Gods. They apply new rulesets and effects to create different experiences in the exploration.

There are currently 5 types of Curses: General Curses, Jaguar Temple Curses, Serpent Temple Curses, Eagle Temple Curses, and Final Curses. Each of them has different specificities.

Gameplay

A Corruption gauge at the bottom right of the screen indicate how much your character is corrupted. Each time the gauge is filled up to 100, or 120 with the Will of Sich'al blessing, passing through a door to a new room will give you a curse. They are randomly selected among a pool of Curses detailed below. Most Curses have downsides and, usually smaller, upsides, adding new rules to the temple and making the exploration more challenging.

The Corruption gauge fills up by opening doors, making blood offerings, or getting hit by dark attacks.

You can get up to 4 Curses before suffering the 5th and Final Curse. To be relieved of a Curse, you need to defeat a Champion or Boss, or offer a cursed weapon to the gods. The game will then let you choose which of your active Curses you wish to get rid of, except when the Final Curse is active, in which case the Final Curse will be removed automatically instead.
