Shields are a type of melee weapon in Curse of the Dead Gods. They are categorized as an Off-hand Weapon.

There are currently 7 different Shields in the game.

Fighting Style[ | ]

Most Shields use similar attack moves. However, exceptions exist.

  • Normal attacks are a quick shield bash, knocking enemies back.
  • Off-Hand combos are similar to normal attacks, but deal increased damage and knock enemies back farther.
  • Charged attacks dash forward, dealing damage and interrupting enemy attacks.
  • Shields passively increase the window for successful parries.

Shields are perfect support weapons for players who prefer to use their Main Weapons : the increased parry window they offer and their ability to interrupt enemies (thanks to their Charged Attack) will benefit any build, even if the Shield used is otherwise low-level and/or straight-up bad. In addition, their more powerful attack - the Off-hand Combo - does not cost any stamina. Finally, opportunistic (or sadistic) players will have a lot of fun using the unique crowd-control abilities of the Shield to push enemies towards Traps.

However, Shields have many weaknesses that make playing them as primary weapons particularly tricky. While their base damage values are high, the damage multipliers of their attack moves are depressingly low, and the fact that the Off-hand Combo pushes back its target means that you won't be able to chain this powerful attack. Moreover, the Shield cannot deal Critical Hits by default, and does not have any attack combos.
